Every education year at LCOTGS starts out with an INVITE BUILD EQUIP Conference on the first weekend after Labour Day. This provides a chance for all of our members and friends to spend extra time exploring topics related to Apologetics, Evangelism and Outreach, Theological and other topics of interest. Many times our own lay-members who have expertise in areas of interest will lead a session and most often our pastor will prepare at least one or two sessions that relate to our mission and ministry at Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd.
Below are some of the IBE topics of the past with related materials that may be of interest:
Christian Denominations: Behind the Caricatures
Do Roman Catholics think they earn their way to heaven? Are Lutherans obsessed with hymns, beer and potlucks? Do Eastern Christians worship icons and saints? Are Reformed grimly intellectual, and Baptists strictly anti-fun? Internet memes and old rivalries reduce rich Christian traditions into cheap stereotypes. This session will examine stereotypes, myths, and surface-level jokes to look at what different Christian traditions actually believe and practice.

Paradox: Following the Lines of Scripture
How can God be both entirely just and merciful? Why does Scripture tell us that strength is found in weakness, or that life is found in dying? Rather than viewing these theological tensions as problems to be solved, we will find that the moments where Scripture seems to twist are often where its deepest truths are hidden.
